See you on the river, bitchez.

sounds like fun, but is too far for me to make the commute. Have fun, and keep your eyes on the rapids; not on "Hot John!"
i'm afraid of the water, and also of the deliverance-type images that keep popping in my head when i hear about the appalachians. :P have fun, though, and take pictures when you can!

Budd, we're planning on driving out friday and get a cheap hotel room so that we're well rested for the saturday 8:30am start. C'mon, you know you wanna gooooo! It's relatively cheap - I believe it's $130/person, with breakfast, lunch and dinner included. Also, I think it comes with free camping (bring yer own tent, etc), but I'll need to doublecheck that. I won't camp - too fucking cold to sleep on the ground :)

Chayenne, I'm scared of the H2O too, plus I can't swim worth shit. But it's so much fun, and I promise noone will try to make you squeal like a pig (scream, yes, but no squealing.)

That looks really, really fun.
It is the getting to west virginia in the first place. I am way, down then over or over then down, far away in Music City. I will have to settle for really cool pics or a great story of how you drowned your digital camera.

Paul, it is really really REALLY fun. Honestly, if I could afford taking so much time off, I'd be rafting at least once a month.

Budd, I think you need to move closer.

If I were more ambitious (and weren't so fucking lazy and anti-responsibility), I'd set up a VOX rafting meet up.

What else do you have to do on a weekend? Getting out of DC should be a priority!!!!!!!

I can show you that the life jackets that you have to wear will not let you stay under water for long. And if the idea still bothers you - You can sit by the HOT guide! I'm positive John won't mind. Come on... make it one of those things you go back to work and brag about!

damn. now THIS sounds like fun.

I've run that river, and it was so much fun. We used a different outfitter, but all of the WV outfitting companies run on the same rivers. New and that one that starts with a G. :-) And the people who run the companies are usually really nice and easy to talk to. Our guide invited us out for BBQ after the rafting trip.

I didn't have a tent at the time, so we rented one of the tents that they have set up on a wooden platform and a tarp. It costs a little more, but since I hadn't been camping in over 8 years, I couldn't complain. My buddy and I went horseback riding on one day, and rafting on the next. It was a lot of fun, but I think she was really sore from the horseback riding to fully enjoy the river.

I've been wanting to go on another rafting trip ever since. I hope you guys have a great time! Take plenty of bug repellent. :-)

YAY! My boyfreind is from Bluefield, WV and he's dying to take me on the New River. I can't wait for the rafting! I'm so excited. :)
I really do know how to spell boyfriend......

gamany, let's go! It is crazy fun and I'm hoping that it is as wild as it was last year.

Kelleah, you need to go again and go with Appalachian WildWaters and ask for Hot John. He was an awesome guide. I went on the Gauley for a fall run a few years ago and that was insane .

BadMojo you'll freakin' love it. You'll feel like a freakin' badass after you finish. Plus it's such an awesome bragging story. "Oh yeah, I remember when I was on the New, hitting some Class IV rapids..."
